Lecturer: Ionel Popescu Abstract: I will try to explain a few things about neural networks. The neural nets are at the moment the iceberg of the tehnological revolution which generates a lot of extremely interesting mathematics. I will try to open the window into this fascinating world. - undergraduate studies at Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, University of Bucharest;
- Ph.D. at MIT 2000-2004;
- 3 years postdoc at Nortwestern University;
- associate professor at Georgia Institute of Technology (2007-2020);
- since 2017 full professor at Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, at the University of Bucharest. and also CSI (equivalent of full professor) at the Institute of Mathematics "Simion Stoilow" of the Romanian Academy.
Mathematical interest lies at large in Analysis, particularly in Probability, Stochastic Analysis, PDE, Mathematical Finance, Differential Geometry and more recently Machine Learning but he considers Mathematics as one field, regardless of whether one likes Algebra, Geometry or Analysis.
